An Introduction 🙂
What is HerWiki?
HerWiki is the world’s only Women’s History Archive documenting the lives, work, resistance, and stories of women who built the modern world—but were erased from it.
It’s like Wikipedia—but written from the other, more important, half of history. Our core mission is to fight the notions “Men Built Everything” and “Men Are Smarter Than Women” that every woman regardless of her age, location, education, contribution is told at least once a day, verbally or by discriminatory actions of the patriarchal systems.
How does HerWiki work?
HerWiki is open-to-all which means that anyone and everyone is welcome to nominate an inductee to be added to the archive and have their story celebrated.
Every nomination goes through rigorous fact-check to ensure the platform’s integrity.
Is it really open to all?
Yes. Anyone and everyone is welcome to publish a story on HerWiki, and the platform is forkable.
The entries are Creative Commons licensed, and anyone can share and/or repurpose the stories on HerWiki with citation (no prior permission required).
What is HerWiki's financial status?
HerWiki is and will always remain 100% non-profit. No subscriptions. No paywalls. No data mining.
HerWiki is operated as a feminist non-profit archive. 100% of revenue from the founder’s book will go directly to HerWiki.
How can I be a part of this cause?
Since HerWiki is a very expensive project with huge operational and maintenance expenses, proceeds from book sales aren’t enough.
Hence we heavily rely on the generosity and involvement of readers who take ownership of the cause to help us exist and make HerWiki bigger and better.
