Isabella of Valois, queen of England and French princess

Isabella of Valois was born in 1389, the daughter of Charles VI of France and Isabeau of Bavaria. At just seven years old, she was married to Richard II of England as part of a peace treaty between France and England during the Hundred Years’ War. As queen consort, she was little more than a child, and the marriage was never consummated due to her young age.

When Richard II was deposed and later killed, Isabella, still a teenager, was left widowed and in a dangerous position. She returned to France, where she was later married to Charles, Duke of Orléans. Despite her noble status, Isabella lived a short and troubled life, dying in 1409 at only twenty years old during childbirth.
